Yob hit teen girl with phone

-

A teenage girl suffered a head wound when a woman hit her with a mobile phone outside a youth centre in East Kilbride.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that Claire Reid had blamed the victim for an assault on another girl.

Reid, 22, admitted assaulting the teenager to her injury and permanent disfigurement outside a building in Brouster Hill on February 10 last year. She also admitted punching and kicking another teenage girl on the same occasion.

John Coogan, prosecuting, said the area is a popular meeting place and groups of youngsters were there around 6.30pm.

The first girl became involved in an argument and allegedly hit another girl who left the scene but returned with Reid and another female.

The girl ran towards the building and spoke to staff there.

Mr Coogan said:“The accused pursued and confronted her. She proceeded to strike the girl on the forehead with her mobile phone.

“Another girl arrived to check on her friend and the accused punched her, seized her by the hair and pulled her to the ground. She then punched and kicked that girl on the body.

“Staff saw that the first girl had sustained a deep cut to the middle of her forehead. This was bleeding heavily. She was conveyed to hospital where the 1cm wound was treated. She has been left with a scar on her forehead. The second girl did not seek medical treatment.”

Reid, formerly of Vernon Bank, East Kilbride, has since moved but her new address was not disclosed. She has no previous convictions.

Sheriff Liam Murphy deferred sentence until next month for background reports.
