Directory will assist mental health issues

Developed especially for and with children and youths

- ROSS THOMSON

A new directory dedicated to mental health services and resources developed specially for and with children and young people across Lanarkshire is now live.

Developed by University Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, the directory is a result of extensive engagement with children, young people and a range of stakeholders.

It has been created to help young people and their families access mental health services and support they feel suits them and their circumstances best.

The services and supports included in the directory are used and approved by NHS Lanarkshire, and North and South Lanarkshire councils respectively.

Hosted on the NHS Lanarkshire website, the directory is divided into North and South Lanarkshire resources with some services being available across both areas.

Information available includes ways to help and improve wellbeing; varying levels of support; websites and helplines and online workshops.

Vicki Trim, health improvement lead for University Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, said: “Whether you’re a child or young person struggling with how you’re feeling or you’re a parent or carer worried about a child, you’re not alone and there is support available.

“Children and young people’s mental health services cover a wide range of mental health needs.

“The best support available to them will depend on their own mental health needs and what support they want.

“This directory will help Lanarkshire’s young people and their families access the services they feel are right for them.

“It’s important that we give young people a range of options to choose from and develop the services they tell us meet their needs.

“We’ve worked extensively with young people to understand the challenges they feel they can face when it comes to good mental health.

“By listening to them and other stakeholders, we have developed services and now this directory brings them all together in one place.”

Online workshops on offer include Lanarkshire Mind Matters, Calm Distress, Silver Cloud to support parents (for helping children and teens) and Solihull Approach for understanding your brain and feelings.

The directory can be viewed via https://www.nhslanarkshire. scot.nhs.uk/services/childrensservices/mental-healthservices-and-resourcesdirectory/

Services are usually for anyone under 18 but people may be able to use some services up to the age of 25 if they’re care experienced.
