Holders ‘The Rolly’ ease past Erskine

-

Andy Brown hit a 20-minute hat-trick as EKRR produced a five-star show to ease past Erskine in the Bobby Thomson Challenge Cup.

The Rolly are the current holders and are safely into the quarter-finals after an impressive second-half display brought all their goals in a 5-0 triumph.

The first half of the game was a bit frustrating for The Rolly, creating some good chances but having no goals to show for their efforts.

The deadlock was finally broken in 63 minutes when man of the match, James Banks, fired home an unstoppable strike from 25 yards to make it 1-0.

Brown then opened his account, pouncing on a loose ball from a save by the Erskine keeper to net.

Stevie Coupland then made it 3-0 on 80 minutes, picking up a great pass from Liam Miles and slotting the ball under the Erskine keeper, before Brown netted twice in quick succession late on to seal the victory.

Rolly manager Andy Cook said: “We are very happy. The most important thing with any game is the result, but we also strive to play a good style of football.

“We started slow and it took us a fair amount of time to get into our stride with chances in the first half that we just didn’t capitalise on. At half-time, though frustrated, we knew that the goals would come and just had to keep playing with our usual high intensity which, thankfully, brought us the goals.

“It was good to have Andy Brown back in the side after a long injury and see him come on in the second half.”

The Rolly’s next match is away to Vale of Leven in the last eight of the cup.
