The Rollyr each semi-finals of Challenge Cup

-

EKRR eased into the semi-finals of the Bobby Thomson Challenge Cup with a 4-0 win at Vale of Leven on Saturday.

The Rolly are the holders of the trophy and took the lead in 19 minutes when man of the match, Evan Duffy, got onto the end of a corner and fired the ball beyond the Vale keeper into the net.

Five minutes later, a move from the training ground with James Banks picking up a ball on the left and firing across the face of goal, led to Stevie Coupland slotting in at the back post to double the visitors ’tally.

The Rolly continued their onslaught on the Vale of Leven defence with

Banks being unlucky to strike the crossbar from just inside the box.

But the third goal came in 67 minutes when Sam Watson picked up a loose ball in the Vale penalty area and fired a screamer into the net.

And The Rolly made it 4-0 in 75 minutes when Craig Duncan met a cross at the back post to round off a comfortable win.

Boss Andy Cook said: “I am delightful that we won the game and progress through to the semi-final.

“It was a scrappy start due to the challenging surface which made it difficult to play fast flowing football, but we soon got to grips with it and were able to impose our game on Vale of Leven.

“I am pleased that some of the goals came from exercises that we work on in our training, that’s always a great reward for the hard work the guys put in at training every week.

“As the holders of the cup, it was vital that we got the win so now we look forward to the next round.”

The Rolly’s next game is in the league against local rivals Eaglesham on Saturday.

Kick-off at Ballerup Pitches is 3pm.
