Jags boss gets response from players

-

Aaron Connolly was pleased to get a response from his East Kilbride Thistle players after last week’s debacle against Royal Albert, as they defeated Newmains United on Saturday.

The Jags boss was fuming that a few of his players opted for the Scottish Grand National instead of playing for his side in the 2-1 defeat.

But after some clear-the-air talks, Thistle claimed a 3-1 win over Newmains to get back to winning ways in the West of Scotland Fourth Division.

Adam Edgar, Lewis Gray and Mitchell Rooney were all on target and Connolly said:“We needed a reaction from the previous week. I didn’t think the performance was great but it was a difficult surface on a Wednesday night when we are trying to get a team together for a midweek game.

“We got the job done in the end so we can be pleased with that.

“We spoke to the boys and cleared the air. We gave them our feelings on it and we’ve moved on from it.

“We asked for a response from them and we got a fairly comfortable victory out of it.”

Thistle host sixth-place Eglinton this Saturday and can leapfrog their opponents in the table, going into the last few games of the campaign

Connolly added:“I always maintained that the position in the table isn’t important to us now, but it would be nice to win the game and give ourselves the opportunity to finish as high up the table as we possibly can.

“We know what we are going to get from Eglinton. We know they have got some big, strong players of quality, who have played at a good level, so it will be a tough test on Saturday.

“We beat them down there with 10 men towards the end of January so hopefully we can come away with another victory.”
