Penalty agony for West Barns

THERE was penalty shootout heartache for West Barns Star on Saturday as they exited the South of Scotland Cup.

The county side and Kirkfield United shared four goals before the contest went to a shootout.

But it would be the visitors who were celebratin­g as they came through 4-3 from the spot.

Jay Boyd scored for West Barns Star before Liam Demianczuk’s injurytime effort ensured that the scores were level after 90 minutes.

Elsewhere, Tranent and Craigroyst­on shared the spoils in the Premier Division. Stephen Ferguson scored for Tranent as the game ended 1-1.

North Berwick had been due to host Armadale Athletic in the Championsh­ip but the game was called off.

West Barns Star were due to face Leith Athletic in the Championsh­ip yesterday evening (Wednesday).

There were mixed fortunes for East Lothian’s sides on Sunday as well.

Musselburg­h United recorded a 6-2 triumph over Corstorphi­ne Timbers in the Only Sport Sunday East of Scotland Cup third round.

Ryan Hutchison bagged a hat-trick while Lennon Wallace, PJ Grieve and Daniel Garvey all found the target as the county side comfortabl­y progressed to the next round.

Elsewhere, Tranent lost out at home to Edinburgh Caledonian. Darren Ramsay scored for Tranent as they went down 2-1 in the Sunday Morning Premier Division.

Riverside Vics picked up three points in the Sunday Morning Championsh­ip following a 3-1 win at Civil Service Strollers. Andy Mair, Marco Mcbride and Gary Mair found the net for the county side in the victory.

Finally, Wallyford Bluebell failed to make the final of the IME Cup. Edinburgh East proved too strong, winning 5-1, with Dean Apicella on the scoresheet for the county side.

On Saturday, there is a mix of cup and league action.

Tranent travel to Mill AFC in the third round of the Logan Cup while West Barns Star host Barca Milton in the second round of the Challenge Cup. North Berwick head west as they take on Armadale Athletic in the Championsh­ip.

On Sunday, Tranent and Wallyford Bluebell will be aiming to progress to the third round of the Presidents Cup. Tranent head to Corstorphi­ne Timbers while Wallyford Bluebell are at Roseburn Thistle.

Riverside Vics will be looking for another three points in the Sunday Morning Championsh­ip as they host Livi North at Meadowmill.

Finally, Musselburg­h United travel to Edinburgh East in the Premier Division.
