Classical musical, dance and theatre on offer
LOVERS of classical music, dance and theatre can enjoy The Brunton’s programme in Musselburgh and Haddington this month.
In Beautiful Baroque, violinist Huw Daniel and Jan Waterfield on harpsichord will perform at the ongoing lunchtime recitals at 1pm on Tuesday in Northesk Parish Church, Musselburgh.
Audience members can have a light meal of soup and a sandwich served in the nearby church hall at noon. Those who are unable to make it for lunch can purchase tickets for the concert.
National Theatre Live production Nye is coming to Loretto School Theatre in Musselburgh on Tuesday at 7pm. Michael Sheen plays Nye Bevan in a “spectacular journey through the life and legacy of the man who transformed Britain’s welfare state and created the NHS”.
Also at Loretto School Theatre, Royal Opera House Live will broadcast classical ballet’s powerful tale of love, treachery and forgiveness, Swan Lake, on Wednesday at 7.15pm
The Celtic folk tale My Friend Selkie will be told in dance, text and songs at Haddington Corn Exchange next Saturday (April 27), at 11am and 2pm. A selkie is a mythical creature who appears to be a person on land, yet changes with their selkie coat to become a seal in the sea. The performance, developed by the cast and Dawn Hartley from an original concept by Niamh O’loughlin, can be enjoyed by children aged three and over.
