Rubbish response
RUBBISH not being collected is, unfortunately, a common experience. In parts of Lewisham, food rubbish was not collected for a month. A spokesperson for the council said: “Our waste collection services have continued to operate throughout the pandemic and we are not aware of any outstanding issues regarding missed collections. “There is no compensation or adjustment against council tax for missed collections.” On the first point, the council acknowledged complaints from residents that food waste had not been collected for a month – which is not a good thing during the pandemic. On the second, the matter should be tested in the courts. If residents are paying council tax partly to have their rubbish collected, should they not receive compensation if they are not receiving the service for which they have paid?
