LUDO Unconnected storylines come together for an engaging comedy

-

THE screwball comedy premiered on Netflix recently and has multiple unconnected storylines overlapping one another.

One story sees a former couple trying to get an old sex tape removed from the internet, another revolves around a Mithun Chakraborty-obsessed man trying to help the now married love of his life free her husband from prison and there is a reformed criminal, who sees his chance in redemption by helping a little girl.

There is also a feared gangster looking for his lost money, which is now in the hands of two strangers, who become accomplices. Add to that a policeman trying to figure out what is going on and a host of other characters adding to the mayhem.

The unconnected storylines are pieced together really well in an engaging film, which has enough to keep audiences entertained. Ludo has great

performances from a standout cast. Abhishek Bachchan and the outstanding Pankaj Tripathi are particularly good. Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Rajkummar Rao also deliver fine turns in their respective roles. The only really weak link is Aditya Roy Kapur, who looks out of his depth next to so many fine actors.

The camerawork is sharp and Anurag Basu handles the multi-layered screenplay well. He also appears in the movie as a narrator. The stronger stories and characters cover up multiple flaws in this film, which includes the wholly unnecessary musical breaks.

The fact some of the characters aren’t too clever gets a little annoying and there was scope for a better ending. That doesn’t take away from an entertaining film, which is better than most Bollywood films that have premiered recently.
