Priyanka’s power suit

FASHION designer Kaushik Velendra (right) has revealed his experience of a creating an outfit for actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas earlier this month.

Velendra was commissioned by Chopra-Jones to create a two-piece suit for her virtual debut as the British Fashion Council’s new ambassador.

The London-based designer has made a name in recent years for his signature menswear suits, which are styled to enhance the torso and shoulders.

Describing the suit as a “super power suit”, Velendra told British Vogue: “It’s meant to change your posture and to give you absolute confidence.”

The suit was created during lockdown, meaning Velendra had slim resources on hand. “Nothing was available, no one was even reachable,” he explained. “I think the outfit is so meaningful and carries that strength in it. It’s a positive message for how people can carry on.”

On social media, Chopra Jonas described Velendra as “a south Asian-born designer who is breaking stereotypes, pushing for more sustainable fashion, and changing the way south Asians in the industry are perceived.”
