DANCE SHINES SPOTLIGHT ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

THE wonderful way dancers have adapted to Covid-19 restrictions has resulted in some inventive online content, including live performances, workshops, debates and unique videos. The latest initiative to premiere online is the stunning Catch Cat The Bird Who Won’t Wo Fly (above) by Amina Am Khayyam Dance Da Company. The unique u performance combining Kathak dance with animation brings attention to the devastating reality of gender-based violence with four individual stories. The dance company’s artistic director, Amina Khayyam, said: “I wanted to create an easily accessible body of work which emphasises the alarming increase of domestic violence and particularly violence experienced by women of diverse heritages in the home during lockdown.” See www.aminakhayyamdance.co.uk
