Return of Granny Kumar

ACTRESS Meera Syal (right) is set to reprise her character Granny Kumar in a new BBC celebrity interview series, it was confirmed last week.

Granny Kumar first appeared on The Kumars at Number 42, a popular chat show on BBC Two from 2001. The comedy, which involved guests being interviewed by a British Indian family, ran for six seasons.

In Radio 4’s Gossip and Goddesses, Granny Kumar is due to appear with her great granddaughter Maya (Ambreen Razia) and arch nemesis ‘frenemy’ Geeta (Harvey Virdi). They will talk to a number of female guest stars, including musician Anoushka Shankar, actress Mandip Gill and TV presenter Anita Rani.

Gossip and Goddesses is set to start on Radio 4 on February 10.
