Naga-Nihal’s BBC banter
BBC RADIO presenter Nihal Arthanayake has revealed his embarrassment after accidentally mispronouncing the name of his new colleague Naga Munchetty.
During Munchetty’s first day as the new host of BBC Radio 5 Live last week, Arthanayake admitted he had made an error after welcoming her to the team.
“I’m so glad you’re part of the Radio 5 Live family Naga,” Nihal said during the
final minutes of her first show, “now that I’m saying Naga and not Narga.”
He added: “The only two Asians in the building and one of them gets the other’s name wrong...I mean come on, it was an embarrassing moment.”
Munchetty seemed to take the error in humour however, laughing off for the mistake. “You’re forgiven,” the 45-yearold said. Prior to her role on Radio 5, Munchetty was known for her co-presenting role on BBC Breakfast with Dan Walker.
