Single: Gal Baap Di Artist: Gitaz Bindrakhia Release: Out now

He may have passed away in 2003 at the young age of 41, but Surjit Bindrakhia is widely regarded as one of the greatest Punjabi singers. That musical legacy is being carried on by his son Gitaz Bindrakhia, who has delivered this tribute track to him. This story-based song tells the story of the late great star, and can be applied to anyone who has lost a parent because the sentiments are so universal. At the heart of the song is a good vocal delivery from a young man following in the footsteps of his iconic father. This unique number with catchy music is worth finding.

Single: Lagan Laagi Re Artist: Amit Trivedi ft. Shreya Ghoshal, Kavita Seth Release: Out now

The neatly crafted romantic number is taken from Amit Trivedi’s new album Songs Of Love. The ace composer has brought together the breathtakingly beautiful vocals of acclaimed singers Shreya Ghoshal and Kavita Seth in a free-flowing song that wraps you in a warm glow. The perfect combination of marvellous music, outstanding singing and emotion filled lyrics make this a treat for all romantics. The song connected to classical influences will have a cross-generational appeal and gets better with each spin.

Single: Teri Load Ve Artist: Singga Release: Out now

This Punjabi love song is better than the ridiculous title would suggest. The free-flowing song has plenty of emotion injected throughout it and the vocal performance is surprisingly strong. There are also some decent lyrics conveying relatable sentiments and even a nice poetic break, but unfortunately the title, which pops up in the chorus, just isn’t good. It is distracting and takes away attention from positive elements of this song. Those who can look past that ropey Teri Load Ve title will find plenty to like. Overall, this is a missed opportunity and could have been so much more.

Single: Tutti Bole Artist: Nimma Malri, Rajia Sultanus Release: Out now

This newly released track has all the fun energy associated with a Punjabi male-female duet. The strong power-packed vocals bounce off each other with entertaining lyrics and quirky music. Although the song is peppy enough to keep you interested until the end, it doesn’t match up to the better Punjabi duets that have been released. The hook isn’t strong enough and the music becomes repetitive to the point that it becomes forgettable. Ultimately, the average number manages to waste two great singers.
