Comedian wows with flawless timing and relatable content

-

A RAPID rise resulted in Sukh Ojla starting a debut solo tour at the beginning of 2020, but it was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic and recommenced recently with live dates around the UK.

The 18-month gap doesn’t seem to have negatively impacted her stunning show Life Sukhs and if anything, she is even sharper on stage with her cutting-edge observations of everyday life.

The show starts off with a hilarious audience interaction before getting into relatable subjects that instantly connect with everyone in the room. With a comic delivery associated with a more experienced performer, Sukh takes a deep dive into her own life as she discusses moving back in with her parents, her non-existent love life, nosey neighbours and growing up in a strict Asian household. Then she goes on to talk about her battles with mental health in a funny, but relatable way and in doing so, skilfully uses humour to open the door to discussing a difficult topic.

She adds depth to her comedy by keeping the audience engaged in some way through the show and makes them part of the live set.

The other thing that keeps everyone involved for the entire length of Life Sukhs is the relatability of the scenarios, jokes and people, including that uncle trying to steal land from your family back in India. There is added extra spice for south Asians because she peppers the one-liners, jokes, and stories with Punjabi words.

The strong material is elevated to a higher level by the comedian’s genuine star quality and strong acting ability, which fills the stage, with even an expression being good enough to draw laughter from the audience.

Although Sukh is discussing her own journey on stage, audiences will go away from the show thinking that she has cast a spotlight on their lives, and that no matter how bad things get, there is always time for laughter.
