Mentoring by opera maestros
A PILOT programme to mentor young musicians from underrepresented backgrounds has been launched by the Royal Opera House orchestra.
Young musicians aged 18-25 and who can play a selection of 10 instruments – including the violin, cello, clarinet and trumpet – will be eligible to apply.
Those who are chosen will be partnered with a musician from the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House (OROH), who will mentor the candidate for four months.
Royal Opera House Music director Tony Pappano said, “Gaining access to organisations at the start of your career can feel daunting and overwhelming and we want to support, mentor and positively shape these very first experiences in a professional environment.” The deadline for applications closes on September 9. See the Royal Opera House website (roh.org.uk) for details.
