Tribute to spiritual leader
LANCASHIRE’S Blackpool Tower was lit up last week to honour His Holiness Pujya Pramukh Swami Maharaj, who led the spiritual organisation Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS).
Red and white – the colours of the lights used on the occasion - signify purity, peace and knowledge in the Hindu religion, according to the Friends of BAPS Preston.
Its spokesman said it was the first time the 518-foot structure was used in such a way since it was built 126 years ago.
The event marked the birth anniversary of the spiritual leader who died in 2016, having led the BAPS from 1971. Saints from across the UK joined Blackpool’s local community to pay tribute to HH Pujya Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the fifth spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan.
Mayor Kathryn Benson described the event as “moving, inspirational and colourful”.
