HIT FILM’S AWKWARD ‘BROADWAY’ VERSION
THE past year has seen Yash Raj Films hyping up the Broadway version of hit Bollywood musical Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (above). The show will finally open on September 14 in San Diego, which is over 2,400 miles away from New York. So, calling it a Broadway musical is like announcing a grand London West End production and staging it somewhere in Scotland. The fact that it will only be initially staged for a month is also deeply embarrassing. With muted publicity and controversy over Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic character being rewritten as white, it already looks like a
project destined to fail.
