New work by Indian artist

A NEW work by Indian American composer Shruthi Rajasekar will be premiered at the final concert of the Hatfield House World of Music Festival on Sunday (2), which is marked as Gandhi Jayanti in India, the birth anniversary of freedom icon, Mahatma Gandhi.

Titled The Victory of Light over Darkness, it was commissioned by ORA Singers, a vocal ensemble and commissioner of choral music. The new piece was written for the veena and the choir, who will sing verses from both Sanskrit and English texts. Shruthi’s mother Nirmala Rajasekar, an accomplished musician, will play the veena.
