SUPER SHUBHA GRACES UK STAGE

-

EVEN with some highprofile tours getting cancelled due to visa issues, this has been one of the greatest years for live concerts, headlined by world class south Asian artists. From top Bollywood singers like Shreya Ghoshal and Arijit Singh to Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh and Sufi sensation Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, there has been something there for everyone at soldout UK events in 2022. One legend who hasn’t received the same attention, but is well-worth seeing live is legendary Indian classical singer Shubha Mudgal (above). The powerfully voiced star behind one of my all-time favourite albums Pyar Ke Geet (1999) and many more marvellous music releases is the standout talent of this year’s Darbar Festival, which runs from October 13-16 in London. One of the world’s greatest live performers will round off an action-packed series of shows by being part of a stunning finale at Barbican Theatre on October 16. The 63-year-old not only has a unique combination of grace and power in her vocals but is also a stunningly talented musician. www.barbican.org.uk
