SHARMEEN LANDS BRILLIANT BREAK
THE fantastic news for Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is that she has been signed up to direct mega-budget Hollywood film Brilliance, which is based on a best-selling novel of the same name.
The potential bad news for her is that Will Smith is attached as a producer and probable lead star. His future in Hollywood has been clouded since the Oscars incident earlier this year, where he slapped Chris Rock and received a 10-year ban from the ceremony. Major studios have been reluctant to go near him since then. A great indicator will be his next film Emancipation, which may come out at the end of this year.
If Brilliance does happen, it would be the first time a Pakistani director has helmed a highprofile international film.
