‘No pay for overtime’
ONE victim of Indian origin, aged in his 30s, said a “broker” helped him get a job on a fishing vessel in the UK.
He said he “always” had overtime work with no extra salary and worked for around £1.83 per hour.
Asked how likely it was that he could leave his job, he replied “not likely at all”
and listed blacklisting and debt as his reasons why. When asked how safe he would feel if he had to make a complaint or grievance, he reported “not safe at all” citing debt and blacklisting as his reasons along with the threat of physical or sexual violence.
Around 11 months into his contract, the man was helped by a charity and removed from his employer.
