Roaring success

THE departing Sunday Times literary editor, Andrew Holgate, has picked “23 best books” to mark his 23 years on the paper.

They include Indian author Aravind Adiga’s The White Tiger (2008) of

which he says: “Another debut I became obsessed with, one that takes in everything from poverty and oppression to caste and corruption in its story of a boy in a teashop who makes it big. Happily, this one went on to deservedly win the Booker.”
