JOYLAND HAS OSCAR HOPE

WHILE India has got it horribly wrong by selecting Chhello Show as the official Oscar entry, Pakistan in stark contrast has a strong chance with its official selection Joyland (left). The widely acclaimed drama followed up winning awards at this year’s Cannes Film Festival with a high-profile premiere at the recent London Film Festival. Screenings at huge festivals, positive press, major awards and tackling a taboo subject have given Joyland an opportunity to create history, by becoming Pakistan’s first nominee in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is due for a UK release in December.
