MUSIC REVIEW

-

Album: Phone Bhoot Artist: Various

THE soundtrack for this spooky Bollywood comedy has disappointing songs that largely get stuck in second gear. Kinna Sona has a promising opening but doesn’t spark into life and pointlessly drifts along. Kaali Teri Gutt continues the recent Hindi cinema trend of rubbish cover versions and absolutely massacres the great original with overcooked music. The Phone Bhoot Theme has a little drama in it, but zero commercial value. The only half decent song is romantic duet Jaau Jaan Se, which has two versions, but it just isn’t memorable enough to be in a playlist. The film needs to be significantly better than the poor soundtrack or it will fail badly.

Album: Shafqat Amanat Ali – Tribute to the Legends – Ghulam Ali Artist: Shafqat Amanat Ali and Amir Ghulam Ali

GHAZAL music has been popular for generations thanks to the poetic lyrics and beautifully structured music. This magnificent album takes all-time classic ghazals made famous by music icon Ghulam Ali and presents them in a commercial way for contemporary fans. Shafqat Amanat Ali adds a beautiful dimension to songs like Mainay Har Kanta, Naina Tosay Lagay, Bhul Jaan Sub Gham and Jo Na Mil Sakay with his stunning voice. There is a great live feel to the lyrically rich songs with cross-generational appeal. Amir Ghulam Ali has two songs, including the wonderful Chupkay Chupkay.
