BAPIO holds annual event
MORE than 300 Indian-origin doctors last week attended an annual conference hosted by an organisation that represents them.
BAPIO, the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, held the event in Cardiff from November 4-6. Wales is the birth place of Aneurin Bevan, who founded the NHS.
The BAPIO Wales secretary, Dr Hasmukh Shah BEM (above), said, “The conference this year brings us together at a time of many challenges and opportunities. We are dealing with the aftermath of the Covid pandemic, the emerging worldwide financial situation, workforce challenges of our NHS and of environmental sustainability and its effects on our health.”
Dr Keshav Singhal MBE, the chair of BAPIO Wales, added: “It was a privilege for Cardiff to host the national conference which showcased many Welsh achievements in health and social care.”
Speaking ahead of the event, Dr Ramesh Mehta OBE, president of BAPIO, said, “BAPIO is recognised as an important partner in the healthcare sector and our opinion at the national level is respectfully acknowledged. This conference will debate important issues on
healthcare in the UK.”
