Easy Gardens

1 Create a showstopping sweet-pea display!

-

It’s easier than you think!

Even if you’ve never grown a plant from seed before, take it from us, sweet peas really are easy and provide a riot of colourful flowers that will brighten your garden and are great for indoor displays too.

1

To get sweet peas off to a good start, place the seeds on moist kitchen roll in a sealed container and place it in a warm room until the seeds swell or sprout.

2

Fill some small pots with compost – or you can use discarded toilet rolls, which are great for training long roots. Plant the seeds about 1cm deep, cover with compost, water them well and leave on a sunny windowsill.

3

Once all chance of frost has past (usually early April) transplant your seedlings into the ground around the base of an obelisk or wigwam. Water regularly and watch them grow. You can sow more seeds directly in the soil every few weeks to add extra plants.
