9 of the best Hardy geraniums

-

‘Rozanne’ (AGM*)

A hugely popular classic. Very long flowering – from June to October – with large, saucershaped purple blooms. Height 60cm; spread 80cm.

‘Patricia’ (AGM)

This magenta geranium is sterile, which makes it long flowering but also means it won’t self-seed.

Height 60cm; spread 60cm.

Phaeum ‘Raven’

This is known as Black Widow for it’s dark flowers that appear in May and June. It loves a bit of shade and will put on a good show in a border.

Height 45cm; spread 45cm.

Cinereum Group ‘Ballerina’ (AGM)

Great for small spaces, this has attractive purple-veined pink flowers from June to August. Height 15cm; spread 20cm.

Nodosum

Loving shade and dry conditions, this lilac variety is great for spots beneath trees and shrubs. Flowers from May until August. Height 145cm; spread: 145cm.

Phaeum ‘Album’

Equally happy in damp or dry conditions, this is the perfect shade dweller as the white flowers, appearing in May and June, really light up dark corners. Height 60cm; spread: 60cm

Cinereum Group ‘Giuseppe’

Forming a neat, compact clump with bold magenta flowers from May through to August, this is happy in partial shade. Height 25cm; spread 30cm.

‘Ann Folkard’ (AGM)

A larger, more dramatic variety, with trailing yellow-green foliage and vivid magenta flowers with a black centre that will stay around well into autumn. Height 1m; spread 60cm.
