What about the environment?

Dry wood is much better for the environment as it produces fewer emissions when burned. If possible look for government-approved ‘ready to burn’ wood in your garden centre or DIY store. Try to avoid burning fresh wood as this will contain more moisture.

Never burn anything plastic or rubber or wood that has been painted or varnished. You want to avoid breathing in harmful chemicals. Although it may be tempting for some to use fire pits as a way to get rid of household and garden waste, it is not recommended, particularly if you live in a built-up area. Contact your local council to dispose of waste properly.
