Sound it out
Mark out potential sites with pegs and string, allowing sufficient space for furniture. Spend time out there at different times to discover whether it’s exposed or sheltered, private or overlooked, quiet or noisy.
Unfortunately, noise is inescapable nowadays, but extraneous sounds can be drowned out by ‘white’ noise, either from a splashing water feature or music. There are outdoor, weather-resistant speakers that connect via Bluetooth to personal music systems, and the site can be partly sound-proofed with dense screening using a mix of walls, fencing, hedges and large evergreen shrubs.
