The size of your garden doesn’t matter, as Nick and Natalia show you can make your green space work for you. They’ve turned their city patch into a slice of the ‘Good Life’, planting everything from potatoes and tomatoes, to rocket and blueberries, while keeping the bees happy with fragrant blooms.
low-maintenance lawn At first we were unsure about astro turf, as we didn’t know if it would look too fake. But this one is a luscious deep green, which gives it a natural look. The realistic texture looks like it’s the real thing.
flickering flames
The warm glow of the chiminea means we can be in our garden all year round. And with the large pillar candle in our vintage lanterns, it creates an ambient mood without the need for electric lights.
encouraging wildlife
Creating a haven for bees, butterflies and birds is a priority. We keep our bird feeder well-stocked with seeds and energy balls, even if it’s squirrels and our resident wood pigeon who enjoy it!
Seating area The raised deck was already here when we moved in, but by adding plant pots and planters, we created a place to sit. It makes an ideal, tranquil spot for al fresco dining and a chill-out area.
practical pots We’ve used pots and crates to plant our flowers, fruit and veg.
This means we can use the right type of soil for whatever we’re growing, and it’s easy to protect our produce from the greedy slugs.
