■ Tall single cacti, such as chichipe, look great in a heavy single pot.

■ Rows of tiny cacti in matching pots look great in small, tight spaces.

■ Jungle cacti make great hanging features.

■ Cacti planted in glass and metal terrariums make a strong statement on metal shelves.

■ Desert cacti in a pot mixed with succulents make a great centrepiece.

■ A shallow dish container is best. Top the compost with a layer of fine grit to give an attractive surface.
