Compost choices

-

Q There are so many varieties of compost available , some of which are specific to growing veg. Should I look exclusively for these, or do you have a soil recipe you can share? A many people overcomplicate the subject of compost types. i stick almost exclusively to peat-free multipurpose compost for sowing, potting up and transplanting.

For growing in containers, i’d suggest using potting compost as this has been developed specifically for the purpose. composts vary hugely in quality, so i’d test a few to find which works best for you.

Apart from acid-loving plants like blueberries, which should be grown in ericaceous compost, i’d say that any type of compost will do a good job.
