Go BANANAS

For foliage, pick large-leafed architectural plants like banana trees. A good choice for a British climate is Musa basjoo, which is hardy, tolerating temperatures as low as 2C. A protective wrap and mulch will ensure that it comes through a severe British winter unscathed. Musa basjoo also does well in containers, provided it is well watered and fed during the growing season. It will tolerate partial shade, but needs full sun to reach its potential height of 2-3m. Beware of planting in windy sites as the thin leaves can tear.
