Easy Gardens

In the sun

-

Herbs are so handy when kept close to the kitchen, and generally do well in a window box as long as they have a soil-based compost to hold moisture. In full sun, they’ll also appreciate a watering in the mornings to quench their thirst. Here a planter is filled with basil, dill, thyme, lemon balm and rocket (best for the shady side), but you could also use rosemary, sage, chives, and sweet marjoram (oregano family). To start, add a few pot-grown herbs from the supermarket or sow seed for more variety, allowing the strongest seedlings to establish. For bushier plants, pick leaves often, and feed regularly to encourage new growth.
