■ This project is taken from Wooden Furniture Hacks by Hester van Overbeek (£12.99, Cico Books ) 1 Decide how high you would like your table to be – this one is 30cm. Using the saw, cut the wooden poles into four pieces of that length. Sand the cut edges to smooth them down. 2 Drill two holes at each corner of the crate, where you wish to attach the legs. If you drill the two holes in a diagonal line, there is less chance of the wood splitting. 3 Apply wood glue to the top of each leg and press the legs into position. Press firmly and remove any excess glue that may seep out of the sides before securing them in place to dry fully. 4 To keep the legs in place, wrap a masking tape around the crate and each leg. Screw each leg to the crate, using screws long enough to go through the crate and into each leg. Remove tape. 5 Leave your table the way it is or paint it. This one has been whitewashed. Make a whitewash by adding a splash of water to paint –the more you add, the thinner the paint. Apply with a paintbrush and leave to dry.
