Fabulous foliage

Euonymus is a valuable evergreen, often with striking foliage, such as E. fortunei.

Phyllostachys aurea is not too invasive. It can also be grown in a container to prevent spreading.

Hostas are ideal for shady areas, particularly variegated forms, and go well with ferns.
