Top tips for containers

When designing container displays, consider the scale, proportion and growth habit of plants.

■ For a display built around a central plant, ensure the finished height will be no more than 1½ times the height of the container.

■ Climbers can be trained up a wigwam of canes or a trellis to give extra height.

■ Before planting up big containers, get them into position first, or put them on wheels so they’re easy to move once filled with compost and plants.
