Bold statement

-

As the weather warms up in spring, a beautiful forsythia under-planted with violas could just be the statement pot you’ve been looking for. It’s one of the unsung heroes of the shrub world, and in spring it will brighten up a dull corner with vivid yellow flowers. It’s also great for cutting and can be brought inside as a house plant too.

What you will need

• Large white pot

• 1 Forsythia ‘Lynwood’

• A bunch of Viola cornuta

‘Etain’

• Potting compost

■ Begin by positioning your forsythia in the centre of the pot and add compost to secure the base. Then add your violas around the edge.

■ If your pot will be against a wall, it may not be worth planting the violas all the way around if the ones at the back will not be seen.

■ You could save money by just having the ones at the front on show and also they may struggle if there is a lack of light.

?? ?? If against a wall or trellis, only plant violas on one side
