Super spuds

Easter is traditional potato planting time. Buy certified disease-free tubers from the garden centre, place them out to ‘chit’ in a bright, cool but frost-free area through March (egg boxes work well). Plant in April in trenches about 12cm deep, tubers should be spaced 30, 45 or 60cm apart depending on whether they are first early, second early or maincrop varieties.
