CHOOSING THE BEST LOCATION Sun or shade?
Something as basic as a seat might seem simple but if it’s permanently fixed it can pose difficulties in terms of placing and setting. Therefore it is important to plan it into your garden layout properly. In a small garden its unlikely that there is space for more than one permanent seat and you might not be able to be too picky on where you place it. If you are blessed with more space, you might have a choice of seating areas for different times of day and for different conditions.
The first consideration will be whether you want to sit in sun or shade. Be guided by the aspect of your garden – few people want to sit in a gloomy space, so put your seating wherever the sun is. If shade is wanted for a sunny seating area then walls and hedges can be of some help but the best solution is to install an arbour or put up a parasol or awning.
If your garden is completely in shade then a pavilion or covered garden room with down-lighters providing a warm glow could be a good option.
