Runner beans

Sow seeds 5cm deep, direct into the soil, from mid-may, sowing three seeds at the base of 1.8m canes or sticks spaced 30cm apart and arranged in wigwams or double rows. Runner beans will give plenty of crop, but they’ll need supporting while they grow. One wigwam is usually enough to support them. If the soil is dry, water well the day before sowing. Good growing varieties include ‘Firestorm’, ‘Moonlight’ and ‘Snowstorm’.
