What is scarifying?

-

Scarifying removes the layer of thatch or moss from the top of your lawn, allowing water and nutrients to reach the soil underneath and encourage new grass growth.

A key gardening tool for your lawn’s health is a scarifier. If you don’t own one, you can always use a spring-tined rake – which can be hard work but at least you’re getting some exercise!

The best time to scarify your lawn is usually late spring and autumn. It’s also a good idea to use a moss killer the week before you intend to scarify, so that it doesn’t just grow back after you’ve gone to the trouble of removing it! 94 EASY GARDENS
