Edinburgh's Foot of the Walk pub for sale: Local anger at potential loss of discounted drinks and food
It’s a shame that wetherspoons have decided to sell the Foot Of The Walk. I feel it is their own doing as the pub has been neglected and has been in need of a good refurbishment for a long time. This I’m sure would have brought in more customers for food and drink and not just people looking for cheap prices
George Baird
I’m no fan of the owner, but pensioners will suffer
Andina Aliaga
Pensioners could get a 7 minute bus or tram to the next spoons and others can walk 20 minutes
Prab Panesar
Great news, support your local pub
Gordon Malcolm
Well locals should organise themselves and see if they can buy the place. One might advertise the idea on local radio and put together a share issue. I think many people would love to own a small part of a pub. Well worth thinking over
William Webster
Like many pubs spoons are feeling the pinch & if running at a loss then like others all over the country they have taken the decision to close their doors & no business can continue to operate if losing money, I deliver beer for Heineken & Bellhaven & have seen a massive decline in the keg volumes pubs etc are taking sad times indeed
Rob Downie
This pub is a vital part of the community and serves a great purpose to the local community. It is half the price of other JD Wetherspoon pubs in Edinburgh. It’s vital it remains open
Gabriel Dudley-Ward
Feel it might be there a while as whose got the cash to buy it? It’s such a huge space (think listed) in a massively populated residential area, so what would a buyer do with it?
Harriet Wood
It’s obviously not being used enough to be profitable
Charlotte Crozier
Wish I had the money to buy it as and keep as a pub, also look at ways to soundproof it so live bands and acts could play (no discos or Karaokes) Make it a great venue that people of Leith would be proud of and affordable. Independent Leith forever
Alan Laidlaw
Just had a brand new tramline running past it. Shows pubs are finished
Jimmy Cunningham
Imagine a business not subsidising people’s cheap food and beer any longer. How long until there’s a petition, where do I sign?
Steven Delicato
No business is there to subsidise others. Too many want a lot for next to nothing. If it’s too expensive, stay at home, cook a meal and stop drinking. Welcome to the real world
Eric Simpson
Do people not realise this is a business. It is not a community centre, it needs to make profit to stay in business. You cannot make money and support a business with customers buying one coffee and spending the day there with numerous refills. It’s simple if the money coming in is not more than the money going out you get shot
