Event to mark decade of climate change action
A zero waste fundraiser and ceilidh is to be held later this month to celebrate a decade of community climate action.
Edinburgh’s SHRUB Coop, formerly the Swap & Reuse Hub, is a communityled cooperative promoting circular economy practices, facilitating environmental education and supporting active participation in sustainable climate action.
Last year alone, SHRUB saved 155 tonnes of CO2 and diverted 28.5 tonnes of household items, food and clothing from landfills – recycling these materials back into the community and providing affordable access for those in most need.
Despite its achievements, securing longterm funding to sustain ongoing projects has been a persistent challenge.
The fundraiser, taking place at
Stockbridge Parish Church on March 30, has been organised to coincide with United Nations Day of Zero Waste.
As an organisation that relies heavily on grants and donations, all proceeds from ticket sales will directly contribute to SHRUB’s key projects, including the Food Sharing Hub, the Swapshop, the Wee Spoke Hub, the Vegan Café, as well as its workshop and events programme.
The fundraiser also gives visitors and supporters an opportunity to learn more about SHRUB Co-op and its work in the Capital.
Fundraising coordinator Ana Blinstrubaitė said: “We welcome you to immerse yourself in an evening of vibrant energy, entertainment, and engaging activities at the Zero Waste Fundraiser. Your participation will contribute to our ongoing efforts to create a world without waste.”
As well as the ceilidh, the event will feature interactive stalls and a sustainable fashion show featuring repurposed and recycled clothing.
There will also be a raffle and a chance to enjoy vegan treats. Tickets can be purchased at www. shrubcoop.org.
