Residentstobe askedwhich councilservices shouldbecut

Spaces for People, because they are pointless. Some bike lanes because they are not used at all. Tram extension, because we have one of the best bus service in the UK. There is plenty to cut but the problem is the council never listen.

Cut the number of councillors by at least half as a starter. Graeme Robertson

Instead of cutting services let’s cut councillors’ expenses. Stop providing food and refreshments at meetings and make them provide their own, just like most council employees have to.

Lorraine Blyth

The Edinburgh residents won’t be asked their opinion at all, the council will just plough on and do as they please. The obvious way to save millions of £££s is to mothball the money-draining tram that loses millions every year and is heavily dependent and subsidised by Lothian Buses to keep it afloat.

Cut unnecessary road works and get rid of the Places for People – waste of space. Geoff R Kitchener

They will already have their own ideas on what should be cut, so what's the point? Like every other "consultation" run by the council it will be a sham unless it tells them what they want to hear.

William Crawford

It’s a bit like knowing your house is falling apart but deciding to spend the money on a holiday rather than fixing the dodgy roof! Focus on the areas that allow standard day to day services to be carried out that affect everyone, ensuring those elements get what they require, then, with whatever is left, decide what is divided up on the “nice to haves”. Cutting services because there’s no budget and then throwing money at vanity projects instead shows a complete lack of awareness! It’s just basic budgeting which sadly the councillors seem to have little grasp of.

Budget for road repairs should be cut. Definitely. Marcin Czyz

Wow. Where do we start? Andrew D Cohen

None. I don’t work hard and pay taxes for the council that I hire to do my work to make a total mess of it. Sack them all, just like i would sack a plumber, mechanic or joiner if they made an arse of work i paid them to do. Where is the accountability to the people?

Paul Fowler

Trams costing billions, bike lanes hardly used yet they want to cut vital services. Andrew Emmerson

The anti-vehicle brigade and those in charge of road repairs, as they do nothing. Greg Thornton

You get the usual posts here "I never get asked". It's really not that difficult if you can manage to use Facebook to post your usual moaning comments on the Evening News comments, then you can follow simple instructions on a council Facebook page. Also the fact folk are still moaning about cycle lanes is disgraceful, especially after the death of a wee boy last week and then two days later a hit and run.
