Spurs set to battle rivals for £60m winger as Hammers eye U21s ace
All the latest Premier League transfer rumours, including updates from Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham and Brighton
Caught Offside believe that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are set for a transfer showdown over Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto. Arsenal’s interest in Neto is nothing new, but apparently they can “expect some competition” over the summer with Spurs also keen on the Portugal player, who has reported elsewhere to be valued at around £60m by his club – although a price tag has not yet been decided.
The 3AM Verdict: Neto is a pretty handy player but the question is whether he can live up to a hefty price tag given his fraught injury history. He’s missed 13 games with injuries already this season. That makes a big bid look a bit of a gamble.
One of the stars of England Under-21’s 7-0 rout of Luxembourg the other day was Juventus’ Samuel Iling-Junior – and the 20-year-old only has a little over a year left to run on his contract at the Old Lady. And Football Insider think there’s a pretty long queue of clubs keen to snap him up. Spurs, West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton are interested in the left-sided winger who has popped up on both flanks at times and scored his two goals against Luxembourg from left wing-back.
The 3AM Verdict: Iling-Junior is fast, fun and a very direct player who offers plenty of threat in the final third, and we’re not surprised to see a queue forming for his signature.
It would be quicker to list out the teams who aren’t alleged to be interested in Genoa and Iceland attacking midfielder Albert Guðmundsson, especially after Sport Witness added West Ham’s name back into the mix. Citing reports from Italy which claim that the Hammers had a bid rejected in January, the article suggests that they will rival quite a few teams – most notably Spurs – for the £25m-rated player in the summer.
The 3AM Verdict: Guðmundsson has notched up 10 goals and three assists in Serie A this season from midfield. As long as the price doesn’t spiral up too far past £25m, we’d say he could be a very good buy for quite a few teams.
