Former Hibs figures share Old Firm views

-

With the Scottish Premiership braced for another tumultuous Old Firm derby at the weekend, two ex-Hibs men have given their view on the contest, while Livingston head coach David Martindale has confirmed that three senior players will leave the club at the end of the season.

As mentioned, the Old Firm derby will take place this weekend, in what has become somewhat of a traditional Sunday midday kick-off. Two ex-Hibs figures, Kenny Miller and Alan Stubbs, have offered their thoughts on the contest between the country’s top teams.

In a recent interview, Miller mused over a possible Rangers victory, saying: “If they do that, I think they put one hand on the trophy, I really do. I don’t think the same applies if Sunday’s result goes the other way and Celtic win, because that game in hand will still keep things close between the two of them. If Celtic win, the title race is still very much alive, and all eyes will go to Celtic Park in a few weeks from now.

Meanwhile, Stubbs said: “Celtic are going to have to show their title credentials, which they have done before. I think this time around the momentum is slightly with Rangers. But then it's also [the question of ], can Rangers deal with that pressure? I’m really looking forward to it. It has the makings of a really good Old Firm game.”

David Martindale confirmed that three Livingston players will depart the club at the end of the 2023/24 season, as contracts for Joel Nouble, Ayo Obileye and Bruce Anderson all expire.

Both Nouble and Anderson have made 28 Scottish Premiership appearances this season, while Obileye has played in 25 league games. Losing one cornerstone is difficult, but losing three says a lot more.

Martindale will need to make sure they are adequately replaced, regardless of the division that Livi are competing in next season.
