Castlebrae High celebrates true spirit of sport and community
Castlebrae Community Campus has hosted its first ever sports award ceremony and dinner in a celebration of sporting achievement and community spirit.
A buzz of excitement filled the venue – adorned with banners and trophies symbolising sporting excellence – as attendees came together in a show of recognition and appreciation.
A highlight of the ceremony was the heartfelt speeches delivered by coaches, players, and staff, who shared touching anecdotes and inspiring stories of resilience, dedication and triumph.
Each award presented – from the prestigious Players’ Player of the Year to the Coaches’ Player of the Year – was met with thunderous applause and cheers.
Another special moment featured the presentation by Michelle Bone from Sport Scotland of the Gold Sport Scotland Award to curriculum leader for PE, Emma Anderson, active schools coordinator Shirley Banks and the school’s dedicated Sports Committee.
Miss Anderson said: “As a PE team we put the young people at the heart of decision making, planning and implementation of extra-curricular sport at Castlebrae.
“Through our creative, inclusive and supportive environment we have provided new opportunities from only one team competing to now eight teams competing across a variety of sports – basketball, boccia, football, hockey, rugby, gymnastics and dance.”
Pupils also have opportunities to engage with a range of partners and courses to create club pathways and routes into learning, life and work in initiatives supported by Edinburgh Harlequins Rugby, Edinburgh College, Gold and Gray, Edinburgh South, Bridge 8 and Sustrans.
Miss Anderson continued: “What truly distinguished this event was its emphasis on inclusivity and recognition of every participant’s contribution, whether
playing sport or behind the scenes. Awards honouring dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship highlighted the ethos of unity and support that is part of Castlebrae’s sporting culture, fostering a sense of belonging and pride among all staff, pupils, partners, and coaches.
“As the evening ended with laughter, applause, and shared memories, it was evident that the Sports Award Ceremony and Dinner had succeeded in its mission – to celebrate not only sporting achievement but the spirit of the Castlebrae Community Campus.
“It left an indelible mark on all who attended, serving as a testament to the power of sport at Castlebrae bringing the sporting community together and inspiring the young people.”
