The Big Door Prize (Apple TV+, from April 24) Chris O’Dowd is back for a second run of the US comedy based on the book of the same name by MO Walsh. The Irishman plays Dusty, who discovers that a machine in a small-town grocery store can predict the ‘life potential’ of those who consult it. When we return to Deerfield to catch up with the locals, they learn that the miraculous Morpho device is preparing them for the next stage, whatever that might be. Soon they can swap their ‘potentials’ for visions, with new questions asked and relationships formed along the way. But for Dusty and Cass, it might be the end of the road – they’re about to go their separate ways, but there could be romance on the horizon for both Giorgio and Izzy.

Dead Boy Detectives (Netflix, from April 25) Apart from true crime documentaries, what do you reckon are Netflix’s mostwatched genres? Judging by the amount of them appearing on the streaming platform, probably horror movies/series and detective dramas – so it should come as no surprise to see a programme combining the two dropping onto the service. Based on the comic book characters originally created by Neil Gaiman and artists Matt Wagner and Malcolm Jones III for The Sandman, they’re now taking stage in a new series. George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri play Edwin and Charles, deceased youngsters who choose not to enter the afterlife, but remain on Earth to investigate supernatural cases. Michael Beach, Kassius Nelson and Briana Cuoco co-star.

Them: Scare (Prime, from April 25) The horror anthology series’ first run aired in 2021 and followed a Black family’s move from North Carolina to LA in 1953, where their hopes of starting a new life looked set to be ruined by evil forces. Although only met with middling reviews, the show is returning for a second season, with a story set in 1991. London-born star Deborah Ayorinde heads the cast once again, this time as LAPD homicide detective Dawn Reeve, who’s about to take on a new case involving the brutal murder of a foster home mother. It’s a crime that has left even the city’s most hardened cops shaken, while Dawn’s search for the killer places her own family in grave danger – something malevolent will stop at nothing to prevent her unearthing the truth.
